As a public sector contractor, we believe we have a moral obligation to contribute to the communities our clients serve, going beyond the delivery of our core services. Here is what that looks like in practice.
We are committed to community wellbeing, environmental responsibility and economic inclusion, and strive to provide tangible benefits to the communities our clients serve. We have a proven track record of delivering social value, through schemes we have identified independently and others we have been introduced to by our clients.
Supporting Sheffield Children's Hospital - Easter Egg Donation
HenmanDunn proudly donated more than 100 Easter eggs and activity packs to support an initiative at Sheffield Children's Hospital, helping to bring comfort and a little joy to young patients during the Easter period.
Sheffield Children's Hospital holds a special place in the hearts of many within our team, having provided outstanding care and support to the families of several of our employees. This donation was our way of giving something back to an organisation that makes such a meaningful difference to children and their families every day.
We are proud to support initiatives that help brighten difficult times and contribute to the incredible work carried out by the dedicated staff at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
Providing For Our Local Community - Food Bank Vehicle Donation
As part of our ongoing fleet renewal programme, HenmanDunn was approached by a local independent food bank charity enquiring about purchasing one of our retiring vehicles.
After learning more about the invaluable work the charity carries out within the community and how the vehicle would support its day-to-day operations, our Directors chose to donate the van free of charge. We are proud to support organisations that make a genuine difference to local people and remain committed to creating a positive impact in the communities we serve.
Bringing the Community Together – Patchills Christmas Lunch
Each year, HenmanDunn proudly funds a Christmas lunch for elderly residents at the Patchills Community Centre in Mansfield, ran by our long-standing client, Brunts Charity.
Brunts Charity has a long history of supporting local people by providing quality housing, community facilities, and wellbeing initiatives that help residents live independently and stay connected. Through events like the Patchills Christmas Lunch, the charity creates opportunities for people to come together, build friendships, and reduce the effects of social isolation.
The event provides much more than a festive meal; it offers companionship, conversation, and a welcoming environment where residents can celebrate the season together. We are proud to support Brunts Charity in delivering initiatives that strengthen the local community and make a lasting positive difference to the lives of those they serve.
Supporting Grassroots Sport – Codnor Cricket Club
HenmanDunn was proud to support Codnor Cricket Club by donating a new lawnmower and carrying out essential plumbing repairs at the club free of charge.
Grassroots sports clubs play an important role in bringing communities together, providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate, socialise, and stay active. By supporting local organisations such as Codnor Cricket Club, we aim to help maintain the facilities and spaces that bring people together within the communities we serve.
We are committed to supporting local initiatives that create positive opportunities, encourage community involvement, and help organisations continue the valuable work they provide.
Raising Money for Sheffield Children's Hospital - Theo's Cup (Charity 5-A-Side)
HenmanDunn proudly took part in Theo's Cup, a charity 5-a-side football tournament held in support of Sheffield Children's Hospital.
The event brought businesses and teams together to raise vital funds for an incredible cause, while also creating an opportunity for our team to get involved and support a charity that is close to our hearts. In 2025, HenmanDunn raised £1,675, followed by a further £1,000 raised during the 2026 tournament.
Alongside our fundraising efforts, our team enjoyed competing in the event and reached the quarter finals in both years, narrowly being knocked out on penalties.
We are proud to support initiatives like Theo's Cup that bring people together, raise awareness, and help provide valuable support to Sheffield Children's Hospital and the children and families who rely on its care.
Supporting Families Through White Ribbon - Christmas Presents
Following a referral from one of our long-term clients, HenmanDunn donated £500 worth of gift vouchers and £200 worth of toys to support a domestic abuse charity during the Christmas period.
Many of those supported by the charity had been forced to leave their homes with very little, often leaving behind personal belongings and everyday essentials. Our donation helped provide families with the opportunity to purchase something special for themselves, while also allowing parents to choose and wrap gifts for their children during what can be an incredibly challenging time.
We are proud to support organisations that provide vital assistance to people facing difficult circumstances and help create moments of comfort, dignity, and hope for those who need it most.
Preserving Local Heritage – Codnor Parish Council Clock Tower
HenmanDunn was proud to contribute towards the essential maintenance works required to preserve the historic clock tower in Codnor.
As an important landmark within the village, the clock tower holds significant value for the local community and represents a piece of the area's heritage. Our contribution helped support the ongoing preservation of this historic feature, ensuring it can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come.
We are committed to supporting initiatives that protect local heritage, strengthen communities, and create a lasting positive impact in the areas where we work.
In addition to continuing to donate to local projects on an individual basis, we are developing our Social Value policy in the following areas.
Employment & Skills
We are committed to ensuring that at least 50% of any new employees and 100% of new apprentices recruited as a result of gaining a place on a public sector framework will be hired from within the client’s catchment area.
Community Engagement
We will continue to support local community improvement projects with volunteer labour and material donations, building on the track record we have already established.
Inclusion & Fair Opportunities
We will support return-to-work initiatives locally and provide 5 places annually for one-week construction taster days, open to interested residents within our clients’ communities.
Employment Workshops & Work Experience
HenmanDunn is committed to working with local schools and academies to inspire the next generation and provide insight into careers within the construction and engineering industries.
We are actively looking to partner with education providers to deliver career talks, workplace experiences, and employability support, including interview preparation and guidance for students exploring their future career pathways.
Apprenticeship Schemes
For any call-off contract with a duration of 3 years or above, we will commit to employing a new apprentice sourced from within the client’s local area, creating long-term skilled employment in the communities we serve.
Monitoring & Measuring Social Value
We monitor our Social Value activities against agreed KPIs and use the HACT Social Value Calculator to calculate the actual value of the activities we undertake, ensuring maximum impact and social return on investment.
We are happy to share our performance assessment with our clients. Our approach is that there is always more that can be achieved; it is not quantifiable in purely financial terms, only in terms of the positive impact it has on the communities we serve.
Whether you’re a housing association, a local authority or a private client, you’re working with a business that is genuinely invested in the communities it operates in.
